Before you pay a deposit
Rules for trading safely in the groups
Inspect the vessel in person
The photos in a listing show what the seller wanted to show. Look at the hull, the drive and the systems in person, or ask for an independent technical assessment.
Ask for the documents before you pay
The title document, the vessel identification data and the service history must match what you see on board.
Beware of deposits paid at a distance
A request for a prepayment before the inspection, time pressure and a price clearly below market are the classic warning set.
Agree the form of handover
The contract, the moment of payment and the way the vessel is handed over should be agreed in writing before the money changes hands.
